The house and the big country

The Pian del Tevere house
The Pian del Tevere estate was registered in 1727.

This is a typical and suggestive example of a big Umbrian farmhouse with its external staircase situated in the middle of a large and prosperous land that was owned in the sixteenth century by the Benedectines.

This Religious order built several big family houses for more and more numerous peasant families because of the more labour needed.



The character known as the Bartoccio is a farmer, the head of a well organised family, where every member contributed to the wealth of the family. At the beginning of the 20th century in Pian del Tevere resided a big family of twenty four people.

The Pian del Tevere's restoration

Pian del Tevere's restoration is a rare and extraordinary philological example of restauration of an Umbrian ancient farmhouse, carefully directed to preserve shapes, materials and atmosphere.

Each particular detail has been carrefully cared to avoid falsifications: from the wall's and roofes unevenness until the smallest details.

The doors and windows opening are the originals. Materials have been chosen according to the local housing traditions,
from the finding of stones to the river pebbles,
to the pure lime mortars.

The rooms are the same as they once were, with walling and wood fireplaces, and the hand made floor tiles.

But the modern comfort is carefully assured by the presence of absolutely new technological installations, well hidden in order not to be intrusive, with a special care to conceal the novelties and to leave intact the external image of the big tiles roof.
